Euro 2012 Discussion Thread

Figured I'd bring this into On-Topic for discussion, seeing as we're heading into the quarterfinals soon.

Not a big Italy fan, but I'm a Manchester City fan and I sure do love me some Balotelli. :)

It was a nice goal, and I am glad to see Italy go through.

Look for GREECE to win it all, baybee, and to dump on everyone's economy.

England is dangerous now with Rooney back and I like them.

However... I'm rooting for Czech Republic.

Best part about that Balotelli goal was his teammate coming to him in the celebration and covering his mouth.

Welbeck's goal the other day was pretty sick.

Croatia is the first team out that I'll miss.  Would rather watch Modric be Modric than see Italy keep playing.

Spain has to figure out what the hell they're doing -- del Bosque has them playing pretty conservatively.  They still look good in possession but not really threatening to score.

Still think it's between them and Germany.  England and France have both been ok, but really need to impress for me to think they have a chance.  Portugal seems the most likely outsider to score an upset... Defensively they are miserable but they have the firepower to outscore someone on a good night.  They have a good first round draw against the Czechs to earn a matchup against Spain/England/France.

Spain might be too hurt to win. They show flashes of brilliance but then look like tired dogs. Still my pick to win though since no one looks overly impressive atm.

No. They won but didn't look overly dominate in my eyes.

I take back what I previously said about Italy, might have been in the other thread... Pirlo bossed the game against England and capped it off with the audacious penalty.  It was fantastic to watch, even though the game itself was rather boring.

I think the most deserving 4 teams are left and honestly, anyone could win in the semis.  Germany looks like the best team right now but somewhat sluggish (almost disinterested) at times. The Italians have been very disciplined and the longer they can keep a clean sheet, the better their chances get.  Same deal with Spain - clearly the better team in all their games but have gone through long periods of uninspiring play.  Ronaldo is the most motivated man in this tournament right now and has been a constant, unstoppable threat to score the past couple games.  I'm rooting for him, if only to see him keep the debate vs Messi going.

I'm excited, it should be very fun to watch the rest of the way.

Messi got screwed in the WC by a coach that had no strategy other than "get Messi the ball"... He was really the only forward they had, and his brilliance was foiled by him being triple teamed. If he gets a different coach with a plan he would be unstoppable.

Go Espana!!!

This game is a nightmare for a neutral viewer, but a feast for anyone interested in tactics.

When Spain plays like they want to score, they can't be stopped.  Begs the question why they have played at such a languid pace for most of the tournament, but guess it doesn't matter when they are going to win anyway.  Unless Italy comes up with something special.
